The Olchon Valley is situated on the Herefordshire/Welsh border within the Black Mountains on the eastern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. It s an area of special scientific interest, with a profusion of birds, plants and animals, some rare, along with no light pollution it is a great place for stargazing. Here, you can leave the car behind and head into the Black Mountains, climb onto the Hatterrall Ridge to join the Offa s Dyke Path where you can walk out to the Hay Bluff and Twmpa, or enjoy the ruins of Llanthony Priory. There is also canoeing, pony trekking and climbing available within the park. For a more cultured day out, you can visit one of the many market towns including Hay on Wye, Abergavenny and Crickhowell. The cottage is accessed via a farm track leading into the enclosed gardens. Step inside to the old stone porch which is steeped in history and take a seat on one of the stone shelves where you can remove your boots; this is a great area to store your wood and outdoor kit too. Step on into the heart of the home where there are many character features such as stone floors. The kitchen is traditional with bespoke wooden cupboards and shelving offering an electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. There is a table and chairs that s perfect for breakfast and planning the day ahead. There is a change in level with stone steps into a small lobby where you can access the bathroom with a bath and WC. A further step gives access into the lounge/diner, a cosy space with large sofas that you can sink into and feel the warmth from the wood burner. Enjoy a film on the TV/DVD player in here before heading off to bed. There is a further change in level up to the dining area where you can enjoy a hearty meal around the large table and chairs. There is a great selection of books and games for guests to enjoy.
